What Is Poverty?

10 points, what are some of the biggest myths and fallacies regarding poverty?

• here are some of my own 1. Poverty is good because the world is over populated and in the absence of poverty there are too many people chasing to few goods i think this belief is wrong on so many levels i think poverty causes over population being practical, people in poor countries can't afford condoms now you can always say, don't have sex, but that is cruel many poor people have a lot of children knowing most will not survive and if poverty was minimized, people would not have as much children because they can rely on their own incomes to fund their expenses during old age any you would like to share?

• Answer:

  People in poverty are responsible for lot in life (they're lazy or stupid or etc). or Impoverished countries are responsible for that outcome (they're corrupt or lazy or evil or etc). Generally spoken by people who have never been born into a situation of destitution OR by the lucky few who make it out of poverty and overemphasize their own part in making it out (when in reality it's like a lottery... lots of people try hard to escape poverty, but only a few have the sheer luck of that opportunity to get out).
