Is sustainable development different from economic growth?

Is sustainable economic growth the best way to promote economic and human development?

  • Sustainable economic growth is the best way to promote economic and human development leading to reduced poverty. GDP is used to measure economic growth. Is stable growth in GDP can lead to the reduction in poverty?? WHY?

  • Answer:

A sustainable or continuous economic growth in the end (long run) results in both human and economic development due to the trickle down effect. Growth can only be attained through involving at least some section of the society in the factor market such as labor and raw materials supply and in the product market of an economy. This involvement has a multiplier effect that goes to other sections of the society at large. This will make the economic growth easier to sustain and the circular effect will finally bring about human and economic development including poverty reduction. By the way economic growth is the prerequisite for any economic and human development though the terms growth and development are these days so intermingled that they are used interchangeably by many scholars and politicians.
