  • Answer:

re women: When companies consider building a plant in a country they are looking for cheap labor, which in most countries is women. So women who may have been staying home tending babies, vegetable garden etc take a job in a factory that doesn't pay much but it's a little money to help feed the family. re poverty: When a company closes a plant in country A and builds another in country B where the cost of labor is less, the unemployed workers are poor. With some useful skills, they may or may not find other employment. The people in country B who may have scraped by on subsistence farming are getting a steadier income and consumers in country A are getting the product cheaper or the same price despite increases in other costs of living. re opposition: People in country A where jobs are lost are angry that someone on the other side of the planet now has their job. People in country B are angry that foreigners ignore their national traditions and want them to work on national holidays, the foreigners manage the plant and don't speak their language, and the profits go to the foreign country instead of being invested in country B. re diminishing diversity: Somewhat. People around the world drive the same VWs, Fords etc and wear similar shoes and clothes. However national languages survive (except languages spoken by only a few thousand people) and national traditions continue. Hindus still bathe in the Ganges and Muslims go on pilgrimage to Mecca. re control globalization: No. The genie is out of the bottle. Where oceans and mountain ranges used to prevent much outside interference, now electronic media circle the globe and if one country does not allow globalization, they are circumvented and they stagnate -- think of North Korea and the periods of starvation they have gone through twice in recent decades. Even China gave in after our President Nixon persuaded them to trade.
