firstly I am sorry about my language because I have just began to speak English. about my question: I am keen on education system at usa because America is most powerful country in the world, ıf education depens on the money in universities, ıt is very strange for America. Because America has enough economic potency for FREE education system in universities and I think education must be every person's right. Shortly I am asking to you ıf the education depends on the money, Why and If America has enough potency for education why do not use it. for example about my country: most of the universities are not depens on the money. we have examinations for joining the universty. ıf the person is successful at the examinations, who join the university. shortly educatication depens on the our degree of knowledges not the money in my country.

Answer:
Higher education in the US is both public (state colleges subsidized by the government and whose budgets are continually challenged) and private (the best schools are private- meaning run like a business- you pay, you get the product). Most people pay for college, with help from loans and scholarships- available for citizens. Your ideas of the "potency" of our economic structure is very mis-informed. It is not the job of the taxpayers in America to pay for anyone who wants to come here, expect a free education and leave. It is considered the responsibility of the individual or the individual's family to decide what is the appropriate level of education and provide it themselves. I worked three jobs to put three children through college and all of them have significant loans to pay off. I am the only one of my siblings with a college education (and I worked three jobs in school!) and am now working on a doctorate degree (and working part-time). I will have a LARGE debt to pay off when I graduate in a few weeks, but I always wanted to go further with my education and I figured out a way to do it. You might be able to borrow money to finance your education, but banks are not likely to lend it unless you are sponsored by citizens who co-sign for you and assume responsibility if you fail or renege on your debts. (Too many people borrow money for school and do not graduate then run away without re-paying the money borrowed from banks and government. It gets harder to borrow every year.) Most of my foreign-born friends were sponsored by their extended family who live in the US: some will stay here and pay off debts, some plan to return home. You would definitely have to learn the language for starters or you would never keep up with the work. Many of the foreign students at my school flunk out because they cannot communicate adequately in written or verbal form. They do well enough to enter but cannot continue because the pace is too fast for the level of communication they are capable of. I would advise going to university in your own country if you can afford to do so. It sounds like your country has an ideal situation. When I was young, the fact that I had a genius IQ meant very little because my parents had no money to send me to school. It would have been nice to take an exam and know I could get an education, but life does not work that way in America.

Education is not "free" anywhere, are you not aware of that? America has BY FAR the greatest university system in the world, and that is largely because the U.S. does NOT pretend to offer "free" education. If it's not tuition, it is taxes that pay for education. A tuition-free system is incredibly unfair, as it forces ALL taxpayers to pay for education, whether they benefit in any way or nor, and whether they'd choose to or not. They are simply forced to pay for other kids' college, without a choice. Further, ALL countries have limited funds to pay for education, and so must ration education in some fashion. A "free" education means most people will necessarily be excluded from having the opportunity for schooling, due to government rationing. That's what your exams are for. In America, people who for whatever reason get mediocre exam scores when they are 17 years old still have an opportunity to go to school, or return for college when they are more disciplined and mature. My brother is a perfect example -- he was a lousy student as a teenager but is now a medical doctor. That is nearly unheard of in other countries. And in fact, despite the lack of "free" education in the U.S., America is at or near the very top of the list in terms of proportion of population that do in fact go to university. Perhaps not 30 years ago, but by today, virtually EVERYone who is desirous and even marginally capable does go to college. The American system shows the perfectly intelligent realization that it is the college student and his family that massively benefit economically from an education, and so they usually bear most of the burden of paying -- although there are plenty of efforts to facilitate financing college through government help, loans, scholarships, grants, etc. Finally, the U.S. is the ONLY country in the world that bountifully finances college -- precisely because it is not a limited government run affair. And this is the reason the U.S. has the best universities; why the brightest students and academics the world over come to the U.S.; and why as a result the U.S. is the world leader in the progress of math, science, technology, engineering, economics, and business.

Universities in America operate as businesses. The level of education that you get from university to university varies. There are some universities that are not very expensive, but have very good programs. Other universities may have equal levels of education, but are more expensive because they're considered "name brand" schools. When you have a degree from a school like Harvard or Yale, you can work almost anywhere because these schools have very good reputations. I think the reason our government doesn't provide a free college education to everyone is priority. The war In Iraq costs $413,204,378,962. Instead, we could have provided 20,031,238 students four-year scholarships at public universities. There's an unbelievable discrepancy with how our country prioritizes. In order to get into a very good university, you have to be "well-rounded," that is, be intelligent, athletic, involved, etc. You have to have everything. Having money helps, too. The average person with an average income doesn't have the same chance of getting into a really good school. There's a fantastic book about university admissions practices called The Price of Admission by Daniel Golden. It talks about how some Ivy League schools have an "F-list" of students who have a lot of money, but don't have good test scores. These students still get in, just because of the money.

There are two factors to education in the US: Skills and scores and Money The combination of the 2 will get you in anywhere. Money will get you in just about anywhere with good scores. The highest scores will get you in anywhere too.
