How are current gas prices affecting your life?

Are gas prices affecting the cost of everything else?

  • Is this why (indirectly or directly), say, food prices are increasing (while quantities are decreasing)? Or why airline prices are rising? Everything else seems to be getting more expensive (relatively speaking).

    yes definetly, not only do they affect shipping cost for foods and other goods but you have to realize that over 20,000 products are made with petroleum that u may not realize such as most cosmetic goods, all plastics, inks some computer goods, etc.

well, of course they are. you gotta plant your veggies, and harvest them = gas (diesel) meat animals have to eat something (hay, corn, soybeans...) which are all harvested with tractors, running about 3 mpg on 4$/gal diesel.... so the price of meat goes up quantities really don't seem to be decreasing terribly. the amount that is being consumed is being stored better. there is less waste. less people are buying it because the prices for your favorite cut of meat are up.... it's a cycle. when was the last time you went to the store and the shelves were bare? i doubt quantities are really down as much as you think they are. of course plane tickets are gonna go up. how do you think they FUEL the jets?

well yes - gas = transportation, therefore most of the stuff that is being transported from one place to another is effected. the food from the field to the factory to the store needs transportation, so more the more expensive the gas the more expensive the transport for the product and the more expensive the final price of the product.
