Could someone explain to me how fair trade reduces the development gap?

Answer:
Fair trade is an income redistribution charity - it lets rich share some of their income with the poor, hence reducing the gap between them. Fair trade does not help with development - it pays undeveloped farmers to continue using primitive technology.
