What are the main criticisms of economics value added (EVA) concept?

  • EVA has become very popular as a performance measurement tool and perhaps is also being considered in using in external financial reporting.. what could be the main criticism of the use of economic value added (EVA) in external reporting?

    i think that it is a great performance measurement tool, yet difficult to assess some elements in it. (to be sincere i do not remember the exact formulas ... ) implying the risk of GIGO !!! ... which by the way is huge ... how do you account for goodwill in $ ??? in case i am having a confusion with the formulas ... maybe you need also the market value, then depending of market multiple evolution, you cannot capture de value added by the management. hope i do not mislead you remember, yahoo is not responsible for my answer !! :-) merry christmas
