What are some medical/health careers without a degree?

What kind of careers can you gave with an anthropology or psychology degree?

  • I'm double majoring in anthropology and psychology and I just want to know exactly what kind of careers are actually OBTAINABLE. I'd like to know what kind of careers people have actually gotten with these degrees, what's actually in demand and possible to get a job in. There are always abundant lists of jobs in these fields, but its hard to actually find someone who has that particular job. And I was thinking maybe this degree might open up other unsuggested areas. Any stories/advice would be very helpful!

  • Answer:

I'm an anthropology major, I work in CRM and I use shovelbums.org as a resource to find a job. These jobs require a lot of travel, are temporary, and may turn you into an alcoholic. They are fun, though. I've been working in a lab for the past six months for $12.50/hr, pay sucks but i really do like the casual work environment, and it's interesting. Cultural anthropologists I know work in market research, but again, not for very much and it is difficult to get a job. You have to emphasize your ability and experience with ethnographic research. My boyfriend was a psychology major, he works at a crisis stabilization center with schizophrenic patients... but he's a very low paid security guard and babysitter, basically. You can be a case worker for mental health organizations and you are directly responsible for driving clients around to talk to their bosses, landlords, teachers, etc. to monitor the client's progress. Sorry, but you will be broke. At least you'll have a job you like. I recommend working a couple years then going to grad school to get a job that pays decently. Do NOT go to grad school right after undergrad because you will work on the same jobs as people with BA's for at least a while until you get actual experience. I know people who have and they're all pretty grumpy about it. Human resources may be a good field with cult. anth or psych...
