Any suggestions for a good science fair project?

Any suggestions for an Intel science project involving anthropology/archaeology?

  • First, it is important to note that I am a high school student, and will be entering the Intel science fair tournament in like five months. My background in biological anthropology is quite good, and I am beyond motivated in regard to this project. I want to choose a project that will take me far in Intel, and a project that actually has pertinence to the anthropological community. As of now, I have yet to find a project that satisfies the latter. To narrow my question, I would prefer something concerning bones. One project I considered today was whether or not structural carbonate in unburnt bone would be a useful and more accurate substitute for collagen when dating remains. However I don't feel as if this project delves as much in depth as I want. Anyone have any good ideas? Perhaps involving the methodology of dating bone (dating of bone is fascinating to me)? Thanks in advance for all who help!

  • Answer:

One of our high school students investigated a shell midden we'd excavated. She used the mussel hings to determine age and time of year that they were eaten. She didn't place at the high school level but it won third place at the state.
