What is processual archaeology?

If one were to practice archaeology in the middle east, what approach would be the best to use?

  • Cultural historical, Processual, or Post-Processual???

  • Answer:

Well, they're all fine approaches, and they've all been applied successfully. Cultural-historical would be the obvious approach for Biblical archaeology. Processual is the approach used by a former professor of mine who's recently dug at Medigo. A post-processual approach has most famously been pursued by Ian Hodder, et al., at Çatalhöyük. Every approach has its place, and so much depends on the particulars of its application.
