Is Hetta and Hatta Village the same? Why?

Why do some people in developed countries see AFRICA as a big backwater village?

  • am just curious if people see africa this way. am from Kenya in Africa, u know the country where Barrack's father is from. and most times i hear people from the states talk one would think we are all gorillas with loin cloths who ride on elephants...( that part is actually qouted from a certain american citizen). i live in an ultramodern suburb and we have swimming pools like y'all and our estate wi-fi service, tennis and basketball courts, security service...and am from the lower middle class. thing is they refer to africa like it was one big village and not as a continent with sovereign nations and war in one part of africa suddenly becomes The War In Africa. Sure we have the highest HIV prevalance rate bt that is due more to genetics than anything else. it is 300times more likely for a black man to contract the virus than for a white man. almost all hollywood movies shot in africa about war are aimed at showing the white man's moral supremacy. i know most people are not like this, but why are some so ignorant?

  • Answer:

Because people generalize, place an umbrella over everything. Everyone is ignorant about one thing or another. It just takes a passion and motivation to become knowledgable. Not everyone has the time or desire to do this, so they take someone elses word for it, and passes it on. Everyone does it. Some, dont like to say they dont know, because makes them feel less than you. That is preception you must change, that it is ok to say you dont know. Then when that person is asked what do you know of this, its is socially acceptable to say you dont know. Instead, they learn from the media, which knows less than you do.... Understand the pshcology of humans, learn to accept it and it wont bother you so much. Or make a movie, write a book and change the worlds perception, opinion. This has been going on since before Christ.

I'm from Africa too, Most people don't view Africa as a continent, there are over 60 countries, the problem of one country, like Somalia, is generalized as the African problem, but, but very rarely the problem of Mexico is viewed as the problem of north America, that include USA and Canada, These are the same people who thinks everyone who speaks spanish is Mexican!

Constant civil war. Failed states like Somalia. "Palestinians" > bt that is due more to genetics than anything else. it is 300times more likely for a black man to contract the virus than for a white man Wrong.

People tend to pay attention to what can advance them, and look less to what's lagged behind.

You said (wrote) it right, SOME people are just ignorants of what's going on in the world outside their neighborhood, but not all of us are like that, I can tell you that I have never thought of Africa as a ''big dirty village'' or anything like that, I enjoy reading Atlases, Encyclopedias, Almanacs, etc and I'm informed about what their lifestyles are, their political situation, their ethnic groups, etc, as you pointed out, some people in western nations wouldn't identify your country in a map without names, but I can tell you that I can, not just Kenya but any country in the whole world, also, the flag of your country and of any African country I can easily identify it.
