Was the Neanderthal or Human made in God's image?

If we admit spiritual rites in burials are an evidence of religion (but that's controversial), so both sapiens and Neanderthals had gods and probably creation myths. When 2 species share the same trait, this trait is often inherited from a common ancestor. By the way, we have evidences of intentional burials of Homo antecessor. So, if Human actually made gods in his own image, or even if it's the opposite, God is a Neanderthal's ancestor.
