Is there such thing as Jewish blood, like not just the religion, but people actually having Jewish descent?
-
Okay, I know that anyone can be Jewish, but how come there's this Jewish look that some have. When I see a celebrity, and think to myself, they look Jewish, I look it up, and that person ends up being Jewish. Today, I mentioned that someone in my family told me before that I am Jewish, as in blood I guess, and these two people started calling me ignorant, and saying that no one can look Jewish or have Jewish blood, because it's a religion. I don't really know anything about this stuff, that's why I'm asking, but they talked to me as if they were positive of what they were saying. Also, on wikipedia, when describing celebrites, they say that they're Jewish, as in Jewish descent. They also categorize celebrities that are Jewish on that website, as if it's like Chinese, Peurto Rican, etc.

Answer:
Yes. There are generally three different branches of Jewish people- the Ashkenazim, or central European Jews, the Mizrahim, or Middle Eastern Jews, and the Sephardim, or Spanish Jews. There are some other smaller groups, but those are the largest. DNA evidence proves that almost all of these people can be traced back to having a common ancestry within a Middle Eastern population, primarily in Israel. Jews who migrated away from the Middle East were able to maintain discernible Jewish traits because there was very seldom intermarriage with non-Jewish communities. So, it is definitely possible for a person to be ethnically Jewish, and "look Jewish", but not necessarily be religiously Jewish

Yep. Jews don't proselytize, so the vast majority of Jews are born of Jewish ancestry that traces back to the middle East a few thousand years ago. The average middle Easterner is almost indistinguishable from a Safardic Jew (all Semites, technically), and the average European (Ashkenazim) Jew is traceable to just four founding mothers from the original exodus from the holy land. So yes, Jewish is a race/ethnicity as well as a religion.

Whoever called you ignorant by differentiating Jewish religion from heritage are indeed the ignorant ones. I myself am Ashken-azi Jewish. That's a heritage, not a religion. Mainly eastern European, to be precise. There are others as well.

You can be Jewish and be an atheist. It's a tribe.

Jewish Blood is as pure as Christian Blood and Muslim Blood. It is the blood of those who believe in that religion. The first Jew was Abraham. His "favored" family became the modern 12 tribes of Israel + the black Falasha jews in Ethiopa when King Solomon fathered a child by Queen ofSheba. One of his descenants, a jew names Jesus was the origin of today's Christians. Abraham, through his concubine fathered Ishmael who descendent, the prophet Mohammed began the Muslim faith. All belong to one race = the Human Race. The typical Jew is usally described as someone who looks like many people from eastern Europe where the largest Jewish population once resided. If you think there is a typical looking Jewish consider the following Notable Jews in the African diaspora Name Nationality Occupation Sarah Barrable-Tishauer[3] born 1988 Canada actress Linda Bellos[4] born 1950 Great Britain politician Nell Carter[5] 1948–2003 United States singer and actress Sammy Davis, Jr.[6] 1925–1990 United States dancer and singer Laïka Fatien[7] born 1968 France jazz singer Jordan Farmar[8] born 1986 United States basketball player Aaron Freeman[9] born 1956 United States comedian Capers C. The definition of "Jew" varies widely depending upon the sect that is defining it. The "Cohanim" are a group of ancient priests supposably selected by Moses (his brother's line) that can trace their male ancestry back almost 3000 yrs. Surprisingly many of those claiming Cohanim status do have the same Y chromosome. Common names are Kane, Cohen, and others I can't remember. The orthadox Jews, with the exception of Cohanim line, trace descent via the mother. Therefore, if someone's mother is Jewish, they are Jewish by birth. However, Judism is considered just a religion by a large group too. Therefore as my old Jewish mentor once said... "Get 4 Jews together & you get 8 opinions on what a Jew is, plus 3 solicitations for funds to build a new temple." I should point out that even though the Cohanim vary widely in looks & skin color, their DNA does show a common male ancestry. Chuckle... of course a few don't & this may be the ruse of some smart women somewhere back in history. Edit: Of course some Palistinians do have the Cohanim Y chromosome. This is probably due to forced conversion to Islam during the Islamic Jihads of the 8th century.

I know some Jewish people, and when people ask their ethnicity, they don't say Jewish. When asked, "But aren't you Jewish?", they say, "Well yes, but that's not an ethnicity". It's true that some people "look" Jewsih because their ancestors come from a certain reigion, but you don't inherit "Judiasm" unless you actually choose to be Jewish. Either way you're still not inheriting it. So those people that aren't Jewish, but say they have "Jewish blood" in them, it's really not Jewish blood, just the blood of whereever their ancestors lived.

Like any group which most often marries within itself, certain traits occur frequently in Jewish people. (You see the same in any group which is isolated, by chance or by choice, for hundreds of years.) There are, of course, Jews who do not "look Jewish" as well as non-Jews who do. (I'm frequently assumed to be Jewish. I'm Irish and German, living in a community with a large Jewish population.) Jewish people certainly don't have a lock on the physical traits which occur so often because Jews so often marry Jews.
