How impractical is a major in anthropology?

Double major or graduate with a BA and a BS in Anthropology?

  • I am currently an undergrad who will be graduating with a BA in Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (yes, that really is the name of the major), an additional major in anthropology, a minor in Spanish, and a Museum Studies certificate. Now, I just realized that if I take 3 science classes, I could graduate with a BS in anthropology rather than simply an additional major. I really want to go to grad school for either cultural anthropology or archaeology. Then, I want to work in museums- specifically, natural history, anthropology, and/or archaeology museums. Is it worth it to take the additional 3 science classes to graduate with both a BA and a BS? It wouldn't be a big deal on my course load, since it's only three classes and I have enough room to take them without stretching myself thin. Is it going to matter to graduate schools whether I have a BA or a BS? If I try to pursue archaeology, will they require a BS? If I choose to pursue cultural anthropology, will they want a BA? I am just really confused and my advisor was not helpful in any way. Hope this makes sense!

  • Answer:

Just take the 3 classes, its always good to learn different aspects of something you are interested in and you'll probably enjoy them even if graduate schools aren't particular about which degree you get.
