A donkey CAN have sex with a horse, the offspring is what you call a mule. A neanderthal technically could have sex with a human, but we wouldn't know if offspring is possible unless we clone a neanderthal to bring one back and experiment

You can have sex with whatever or whoever you want. I believe what you're asking is if they would be capable of mating and producing offspring. And the answer to that would be that it's unlikely. Donkeys can have sex with horses. They produce mules. Mules are sterile though as are most hybrids of closely related species. Some closely related species like a lion and a tiger can be bread together to produce a liger. A liger can sometimes produce offspring, but it often miscarries or is sickly when born. Most species even if they are closely related can't produce offspring with one another. I don't know if humans are related closely enough to neanderthals to be able to reproduce, but even if they were the outcome would likely be something like what I've listed.

You mean "was he allowed to ?" May be not We can suppose unsuccessful mating could have raise a taboo about sex between our two species. But even in a racist context, sometimes Love wins. From recent genetics research (still ongoing) it appears: - 250 000 to 150 000 years ago our branches didn't diverge enough to prevent hybrid birth. Our 4 % of Neanderthal DNA come from interspecies encounters in Near-East. - 40 000 years ago when we met again in Western Europe, speciation was done and no more interbreeding occurred. The only one hybrid fossil known from that time (still disputed) is a boy, probably sickly and dead as a toddler (4 or 5 years old)

Since there are not any Neanderthals it follows that homo sapiens and homo neanderthalensis cannot successfully mate at this time. If you want to know whether or not it has ever happened, check out the progress of an attempt to map the Neanderthal genome and compare it to modern human genome: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2583069/ http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/13/science/13neanderthal.html http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2010/05/neanderthal-genome/ Beware of journalistic reporting. Some investigations found contamination. Others found that we share some genes with the extinct species, but we share genes with fruit flies, too. So that does not indicate successful mating.

Um. A donkey and a horse CAN have sex. Your question alludes to something we cannot know, as there are no pure Neands around if they WOULD have sex with a human. My own research says they actually did reproduce. The traits are out there: we just trying to find the DNA proof.

Neanderthals were there and done that. A large population of humans, excluding indigenous africans have some neanderthal DNA.

Yes..they can have sex...but they will give birth to anything ?

By "have sex", I take it you mean breed? A donkey can have sex with a horse, they can even breed. Their offspring won't be able to reproduce, though. This is a silly question, a human can have sex with a horse if they want to, inter-species sex is not physically impossible.

Lou

1) a donkey can have sex with a horse 2) there are no Neanderthals 3) they did breed as there is Neanderthal DNA in about 4% of some populations 4) you need to use a better definition of "human"
