What is Indo-Fijian culture?

Answer:
Indo-Fijian culture would be the culture of Indo-Fijians. Fiji is an island nation in the western Pacific ocean. The indigenous Fijian population is mainly Melanesian. During the 19th century, the British colonisers brought a large number of Indians to Fiji to work as indentured labourers in the sugar industry. Today, the descendants of those Indians make up about 40% of the population of Fiji, with Melanesian Fijians forming the remaining 60%. Indo-Fijians have retained their Indian heritage and languages; but after 100+ years in Fiji the community has developed some unique aspects. "Fiji Hindi" is a dialect of Hindi which incorporates many words and expressions particular to Fiji. The original labourers were brought from many different parts if India, so Fiji was something of a "melting pot" - people where thrown together from widely different parts of India, with different language groups, castes etc, who would not have had much contact otherwise.
