In evolution what made some chimps evolve into humans and others not? Also...?

if we share the same ancestor, which gene is recessive and if there is one then why aren't chimps having human babies and vice versa?

Answer:
In the 1930s the Russians under Stalin attempted human chimp crosses. The experiments failed and the scientists were sent to labor camps. People make the mistake of assuming that we came from today's apes ("why aren't chimps having human babies...") We split from the chimp line some 8 million years ago. We evolved, as did the chimps. Each has gone their own path and some 16 million years separate us. Humans developed when a small group became geographically isolated from the main population. Evolution proceeded quickly (small numbers, interbreeding, harsh enviorment.) The main population also evolved but at a slower rate and different path. There;s nothing that requires a parent population to go extinct. At the same time nothing requires a population to evolve in a certain direction. If you stuck a bunch of chimps into the same conditions that produced us, most likely they'd die off. If they survived there's nothing that guarantees that in 8 million years that they'd be human. The chain of accidents and genetics that resulted in us is unlikely to be repeated. Take the Toba eruption some 70-75,000 years ago. It's estimated that humans were reduced to 10,000 or even just 2,000 individuals. That would have knocked out any number of genetic lines. Evolution is random and not goal orientated. It's small changes in individuals that, with natural selection spread through a species. Great traits can develop, grow and then be lost. Chimps and humans cannot interbreed. there's chromosome counts, DNA and too many years of evolutionary change to allow it.

Chimps are a separate species. We did not evolve from chimps, but we seem to have shared a primate ancestor at some point millions of years ago. New species develop (i.e. evolution) due to a "mistake" in gene reproduction. There have been many human primate ancestor species that have long been extinct, that we may or may not have evolved from (Neanderthal to name one). There are many genes that we share with chimps (our closest living primate relative) but many are different and expressed differently. DNA and evolution is a very complex subject. I suggest taking several courses in college so you can begin to understand the basics of how it all works.

Its obvious you have never seriously studied evolution or you wouldn't be asking such a question. By the way, man shares about 98% of the genes that apes have. Its a fact. DNA proven.

You don't understand how it works. It's not as though some chimps, boom, turned into humans. ???? I don't get that bit following Also. It's not true that there's only ONE genetic difference between us and chimps. (Actually it wasn't chimps, today's chimps evolved into their current form after we did.) http://evolution.berkeley.edu/ http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/exhibits/index.php http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn9953-instant-expert-evolution.html http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn13620-evolution-24-myths-and-misconceptions.html Are places you could learn about evolution, there are also lots of books on it. We DID evolve from an earlier species of ape; we split off from them. An isolated population inter-bred among themselves; over a long time, mutation accumulated to the point they couldn't breed with other apes. One wouldn't expect nay other species to evolve into humans; those particular changes were accidental, but since they were advantageous, they persisted.

We don't know exactly what ape chimps and modern humans evolved from. One of the more common theories is that the ancestors of modern humans ventured out into the open savannas while the ancestors of chimps stayed in the forest. Our ancestors became or stayed bipedal while the chimps were more adapted to climbing trees.

Our common ancestor made apes what they are now,but made Neanderthals first. They branched out and became us.Both Homo sapiens and Neanderthals lived at the same time, but N's died out for some reason.

There is absolutely no evidence to prove that man evolved from apes. The so called "missing link" is missing because it doesn't exist. Man evolved along separate lines. One answerer suggests an evolutionary link between Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens. Not true. These are two separate subspecies. Neanderthals did not become Homo Sapiens and in fact lived at the same time. The fact that apes and man share some common traits is not proof of an evolutionary link. Your question is right on point. A belief in evolution does not preclude a belief in intelligent design in my opinion. I believe that God created the universe and all life forms within it. The fact that He set an evolutionary process in place to allow various species to adapt is evidence of the intelligence of the design. A belief that this must mean man evolved from apes rather than as a separately evolving species is a non sequitor.

Evolution is a lie and ignorant scientists are just using it to deceive people. Humans and chimps are similar only because they share a common creator (God).

We are just a huge experiment, I don't believe we evolved from apes at all. There is more to all of this but I don't think this is the forum in which to use to explain it all. Too in depth!!! Doesn't involve the bible or God either.

Living in an environment where some of the species had to use more reasoning skills than others.
