International Relations or Cultural Anthropology?

Correct career path for Anthropology.?

• I'm in the military now, still young and am starting school. I went to the education center to get some help on where I should start. I was told to get an associates in art in general education, and then I was told to get a bachelors in something like psychology, business, international relations ect...and then go and get my masters in Anthropology. So basically, I'm looking for answers to find out if the woman who helped me was correct, and if this is the way I need to go if my ultimate goal is to become a anthropologist. (Eventually I do want a PhD, but that's very far down the road) I am interested in international relations as well, so if what she told me was correct, and I could get my bachelors in International Relations, then go to Anthropology, that would be awesome.   You might have difficulty getting a masters in Anthro without at least a minor in it. You should check with some of the colleges that offer masters programs in Anthropology for what their prerequisite courses and degrees are to enter those programs. International Relations is more of a political science and economics related discipline than Anthro is -- Anthro is a social science and most advanced degrees in it require background in ethnography, linguistics and even a foreign language. A Baccalaureate in Psychologt might be of some use (with a minor in Anthro) but a Business degree would not satisfy any of the foundational pre-reqs for an Anthro masters. You can send for enrollment information and catalogs from most colleges and universities for free. I would advise you to do that and not rely on the information the person at the education center told you.
