Why did some chimps evolve into humans, and some remain chimpanzees?

Why dont all chimps evolve into humans?

    Because Chimps are not - nor ever were - the ancestors of human beings. Why should they be? Why should any other great ape species (Gorilla, Orangutan, Bonobo) evolve into human beings? NONE of them are ancestors to us. Instead, Humans and all the other great apes evolved from a single ancestral species many millions of years ago, AND ARE STILL EVOLVING. Chimps are still evolving to maximize survival potential; they're just on a different branch from us now. Consider all of the great apes, including us, to be cousins on the evolutionary tree. Remember that evolution is a process, not a plan. There is no "plan" for anything to evolve into anything else - chimp to man, for example. Species evolve in response to changes in their environments. Different enviornments result in different species. Groups of our common ancestors lived near and on the early plains of Africa. They became bipedal, then us, after a few false starts. Other groups of our common ancestors stayed in the trees. They remained quadripedal and became the other great apes. Evolution doesn't work like that. If it did, there would only be a handful of species in the world. Genes mutate and develop a species until it separates into two distinguishable orders - after that, they become in competition with one another, and the higher order will often kill off the lower order. But the order from which they have developed will be so far removed that they will not represent a threat and therefore they survive.

Given the fact that humans are one of the most destructive, wasteful and parasitic species - if i was monkey i'd see being a human as a form of devolution!

Because Humans did not evolve from chimps. Chimps are "as evolved" as us they just evolved to be chimps, not humans.... in time they will evolve into something else, but by then, so will we.

They have found a level of evolution that suits them. After another few million years, chimps and humans may well have moved on. Looking around, I'm a little concerned that some humans may be evolving into chimps.

i think its to do with the different environments in which the chimps may have lived which made them evolve differently..... not sure though.... good question

man!....dint you understand evolution? it takes time..... chimps are chimps...... but somewhat they will evolve...(but why humans?) they will evolve soon like millions of years to adopt at their sorroundings. those monkey evolution of humans thing are just a scientific theory... we didn't know for sure why did you ask that question anyway?..."IM me" send me an IM -please...

Evolution is like a tree. Every living creature on the planet is related to each other if you go back far enough, ie. 3 billion years. However, over time this evolutionary tree has grown many branches which each relate to different types of life. We are on the same branch as the primates, ie. apes, chimpanzees, etc, but humanity is on a 'twig' of its own as it separated from the other primates several million years ago. Chimpanzees will never evolve into humans as they have now gone their separate ways. However, they will continue to evolve in much the same way as humans are still evolving. It would be interesting to go forward in time several million years to see what humans look like in the future.
