What separates us humans from other animals?

  • Answer:

Hi Alisa, Like other species of animals, Homo sapiens have a unique genome which means we cannot produce fertile offspring by mating with other animals. But the most distinctive aspects of humankind are products of our hyper-sociality, arising from the human revolution [1]. So, here is a septet of uniquely human traits: • Symbolic language and thought • Multilevel theory of mind – eg: they believe that she thinks I reckon we’re the best team • Environmental adaptability, via clothing, shelter, and spacecraft • Artistic culture – painting, sculpture, body art, architecture • Musical culture predicated upon instruments • A culture of advanced complex tool use • Medical practice Share and Enjoy, Peace-&-Love, Dalinian – ★ ☮ ♥ ꂨ ♻

Only chromosomal and genetic differences separate us from other species of animal. These prevent us from sexually reproducing with any other species, and therefore are the only thing that separates us from sharing genes with other gene-pools.

Our first step away from other animals came with our use and understanding of the thumb. No other animal has a hand with a thumb like Hominids. With that we grew our level and understanding of power using force. Some where along the line we came to understand that force has to be tempered. Humans began to think of consequences. This is the birth of intelligence. It is intelligence that separates Homo from others in the animal Kingdom.

We have something called culture. Other animals do not have this (but there are a few examples of culture in some animal species). That is really the main difference between us and other animals. It is because of our culture and ability to adapt to so many environments that has lead us down the path we're on.

Human is instintive without border, but animal is instintive within border. Animals have no religion, they follow nature, and they have no deceit. Humans have religions, they do not follow nature and possess incredulous amount of deceit. These are the contradictions of human.

One major difference is a sense of time - past and future. Animals are not capable of the conscious perception to contemplate time. They live in the moment. A bird builds a nest for future needs and a beaver stocks branches under water for future food supply (bark). But these actions are instinctive and are not contemplated through reasoning.

Humans are animals of MY species. As a kind of chauvinism I tend to think my species is superior because of our intelligence. I just ignore other qualities like fast running, flying, swimming, strength, long teeth, venom, mimicry... and many other we are not very good at.

Almost nothing... All of our behaviors are based on the survive/specie continuation factor! Even in monkeys, pinguins, elephants you see rigid stratified societies like in human specie! The difference is that we learned to survive by using our hands to create something more complex than the "natural" way... In Portugal a children was left to be grown by chicken (yeah, that's right) so when the social security found this child she had almost no hability to speak, and had the behaviours of the chicken... Ok, she didn't laid any egg.... See my source and translate it if you don't believe...
