Are there any good acting agencies in Chicago?

How to get started in acting/singing in Chicago?

  • Ever since I was a little girl Ive always wanted to be an actress. I love being able to play different roles, and becoming someone else for a change. So when I was about 11 I went to an audition for something called John Robert Powers. I learned later on that apparently that was a scam, and went to another place and took acting/singing lessons. I have even been involved in something called I-Pop, which took place in 2006? I think. It was an event held in L.A. for agents to scout for talents from all over the U.S. and other countries. Anyways, I didn't landed any agencies there. About a year later I took classes at another place and at one of the auditions I went to I landed an agency! However, they required new head shots and resumes every 2 months and they were pretty expensive to upgrade for my moms budget. So, I gave up. I never really thought about giving it another shot until recently. I live in Chicago and I kind of want to give it another try but im unsure of where to start. I'm 16 years old and I honestly love singing and acting. I have some back round in the matter, a few school plays, and a community play. Talent shows, and a whole bunch of classes as well. If anyone knows how I can start up again without having to pay thousands of dollars, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Agents They are in business. They are trying to make money. They should not however insist that you take their classes or use their photographer. They do not look at your picture and resume and go out and try to find you a job. You should give them enough information about your skills and decent photos of you. Almost all agents know where to find out about casting for theater and movies. When these castings are announced they look through their files to see who might have a chance. If you appear to have a chance they will notify you. Until you have found work several times they are not going to go out and try to sell you to a producer .Read these web sites and all their links. http://www.actingbiz.com/articles/how_to%E2%80%A6 http://www.agentassociation.com/ This one for finding an agent in your area. http://www.sag.org/content/find-agent You have to do a lot locally before you can move on up. Going to LA or NY is taking you where the competition is so severe that your chances of ever being seen by anyone is slim. Getting know in your own town and state, gives you a heads up. You will also be seen by the directors who come to direct locals shows, or to just check out what is going on. Take it at your own pace. Do what you feel inspired and comfortable doing.
