Where can I find a good monologue for my audition?

Im looking for a contemporary monologue for an audition for a musical theatre school where can i find one?

  • i'm looking for a female lead with a substantial monologue

  • Answer:

The best place to go is a library and sort through their plays. It is always best to have read the play the monologue comes from. There are also monologue books for women that are filled with all different kinds of monologues. Even if you find one in there, try to find and read the play. You can also go to bookstores and find monologue books and of course plays in their performing arts section. If you have a "Chapters" or "Indigo" nearby, they usually have a good selection. Check the internet, there are a few web pages with monologues but try to find one that comes from a published play and not one that someone has written and posted. Try to find something that is appropriate to your age, doesn't require an accent, and that you feel comfortable with. If you have a university or college nearby that has a theatre program, they will have plays in their library, and the theatre department itself might have a play collection. Go and ask if you can have a look and maybe photocopy a couple of monologues. Good luck!
