What is the flute fingering for E sharp?

What is the fingering for low B natural on the flute?

  • I am trying to get a solo in band, and it's really low, and the lowest (and last) note is a low B natural...it's below an extra line under the staff...I've looked everywhere and can't find it...the lowest on the fingering chart my teacher gave me is low C...does anyone know the fingering to it?

  • Answer:

Except for a few flutes that have an additional linkage with a LEFT hand lever, there are not flutes with a low B flat. However, many flutes have a low B footjoint. You would need to use ALL the lowest keys - one spatula key and 2 rollers - to get that note. Sadly, it is notoriously leaky, and therefore does not speak. If this is a solo in band that ends of a low B, then I feel your pain in trying to be HEARD over just about anyone else playing! If this is truly as *stand up in front* solo - get a mike or a pickup. Fingering: http://www.wfg.woodwind.org/flute/fl_alt_1.html In order to play the low B you will need a flute with a B-foot. Notice that it's longer than the C- foot. http://www.flutesonline.com/shopping/b_cfoot.jpg

You are most likely playing a C flute and the best recommendation I have for you is to play the middle B which is yout right index finger, or depending on what key you are playing in play a harmony note to the B. add: i do believe banana has gone bananas because i have never head of an extra piece just for the B note only. B natural is not that common of a note especially for a C instrument, such as a flute, low brass, piano, oboe, etc. So I don't understand the thumbs down.

You won't be able to play that note unless your flute has the "b foot." It is a key next to the low "c" key, kind of an extended extra key. I can only play as low as a C on my flute, because I don't have that key.

Well, what kind of flute do you have? Do you have a C Flute, or a B flat Flute? That makes all the difference. If you have a C flute, there is now way you can hit that note. You would need a B flat Flute. *** WTF?! For the people saying you could just get the other foot piece? What's the point of having it if you're not going to get the rest of the professional flute?? I know what I'm talking about with the B flat Flute. Yes, you don't always have those low notes, and don't always use the holes in the keys...(if you actually get one like that, which I have) but when you need them....you have them! I've come across a similar problem...and didn't have the B flat Flute. But then again, I didn't go out and just buy the extra foot piece. I would have nowhere to put it. When I got my flute (pro one) it had a much, MUCH better tone to it. Even my mom noticed and she knows nothing about instruments! If you get one with the holes in the keys...you can get plugs for them, which I needed for a few cuz my fingers aren't long enough to cover the whole completly, leaving that particular note sounding bad/wrong. You can also get a few more fingerings out of the holed keys...like higher notes, like SUPER high. I don't remember how high, but I know they're up there!
