How do you play a high F sharp on the clarinet?

How to play high notes on clarinet?

  • Okay, well I need to learn all the high notes (up to a 4th octave G# preferably) by next April/May. I can already play up to the E (and sorta F) below that, but I would like to get a good clear sound out of it. I play a 3 1/2, and I've been in band since 5th grade (9th now) and I want to get into Wind Ensemble, which is really hard to get into, and you have to know ALL your chromatics and stuff. (There's another one called Symphonic band, which is what freshman go into if you don't get into Wind Ensemble) Plus, I want to be a band director when I grow up, so getting a head start on getting into a hard class would look good on a college application and just help me out in the future. I will probably get a private teacher sometime this year, but not for a while. All help appreciated!

  • Answer:

well, just make sure you have good air support (take a big breath) and try not to bite down on your mouthpiece, which is usually the problem for a lot of people. ask someone for the fingerings, i'm can't really explain them.
