What's the best acoustic guitar?

Whats the best acoustic guitar?

  • im looking for a new acoustic and i was wondering what the best type is my price range is anywhere up to 500$ and something made in north america (none of this china ****) any suggestions??

  • Answer:

If your budget is only up to 500, dont think your going to find anything new coming from anywhere BUT overseas. I do know that the lower line Fender electric guitars, not the squiers.. but Fenders, are made in mexico. Not to sure about their acoustics. Based on the budget you have... and you dont say if its an acoustic/electric you are looking for... I would consider the Martin DX1R at 499. (acoustic only) This is a dreadnaught guitar, and has a solid Sitka Spruce top, which is going to give you a real warm sound. And at that price for a new Martin, im not sure if its even made here in the states, and cant find any info on where its made. Also, on the model I played a few weeks ago, I could not find where it was made, as I was quite shocked at the price. Dont know if Martin did that on purpose. Another right at 499 I would recommend would be the Epiphone Masterbuilt EF500M. Playing both of these guitars in the past, I would actually say the Epiphone is a little better constructed and has a better sound than the Martin. That particular Martin, the DX1R seemed to be a bit on the fragile side. . Lot of people may laugh at the Epiphone name, but the Masterbuilt series are very fine guitars. Last, and not least, I could recommend the Alvarez AD70S at 349. This is a great sounding guitar in the price range its in, and has a solid spruce top. Ive also played several of these before, and they are very consistent from guitar to guitar quality wise. If you had just a touch higher budget, at 749 I would recommend the Taylor 210. I own one of these.... and its a great sounding instrument that I feel outclasses many acoustics costing much more. Hope this has helped.... and happy shopping!

That greatly depends on what you want it for and your the level you are at in your ability. If you are classical style guitarist, you can get some real bargains on ebay. Classical guitars sell for quite a bit less. for sound quality Yamaha makes a good classical and a good one to compare others too if you can try out the instrument, not possible on ebay which is a big drawback to buying there. If you need a steel string acoustic, there are a some brands that make great sound and are not as expensive as a Taylor, Fender, Gibson, or Martin. I would suggest checking out Takamine first. Great quality but a lower price. Check the edges of the neck to see if the frets are smooth, make sure the strings are not to high off the fretboard and finger pick eash string all the way up and down the frets to see if there is any buzz and how the action is. if it is hard to get the strings down or easy.

I would suggest a used Martin Dread naught. That is my first choice. I play an Alvarez AW-70CE. I think it is out of your price range though. Martin is a USA company.
