Need help with my guitar amp?

Need help choosing an electric guitar amp!!!?

  • I need some help here. I need a 50-100 Watt amp to play classic rock, hard rock and heavy metal songs(Led Zeppelin,Scorpions,Metallica,ACDC,RHCP,I… Maiden,Aerosmith,GnR etc.).I have 1000 bucks to spare ,so i would like your suggestions.I would say Marshall has the best amps though...

  • Answer:

Look at all of the tube amps available locally under $1000, start with Marshall since that is your first preference. Play a bunch of them and decide from there. Les Paul and Marshall together is hard to beat! BTW What guitar are you using? A great amp and crappy guitar will still sound crappy :) There are a ton of amps to choose from, but first question, are you SURE you need 50-100 watts? The best tube tone comes from driving them to the limit. 50-100 watt limit is a stadium! IF you play a stadium, you would go through the mixing board and PA...... Just saying consider what you REALLY need. Then consider if you want a combo or head/cabinet combo. You could extend your amp to a 4x12 cab if you need more volume...... 5 watts through a 4x12 can be too loud :0 Fender, Laney, Egnater, Vox, Orange, VHT and others try them all see what you like best. ____________ Excellent, I was hoping you were starting with a great guitar, but you never know! Take your LP to Guitar Center or what ever you have near you and see what works for you!

You're best bet would be a used peavey 5150 which was the "signature" amp of eddie van halen so it can easily get a great rock tone and is also THE most widely used amp in today's Metal scene. It is rated at 120 watts and is powered by 4 6l6 power tubes and 5 12ax7 preamp tubes. Peavey stopped producing it in 2005 and started making the 6505 which is the same exact amp just a different name. There is also the 5150 II and the 6505+ which are identical to the 5150/6505 except they have one extra preamp tube to give a better clean tone. I will warn u though, that the clean channel is not the best in the world but it isn't terrible if u know how to eq it properly. the 5150 can easily be found on eBay for a really good price but I wouldn't pay an more than 800 and Thats only if it was in mint condition otherwise 6-700 is a pretty good deal. u will also need an amp cabinet of course and any cab with vintage 30 speakers will sound simply amazing which u could find anywhere or if u want to save some cash and get a made to order cab then check out avatar cabs which allow u to chose whatever speaker combination u want as well as a 1, 2 or 4x12 cab (4x12 being the most expensive). I would, however, stay away from Marshall amps built after the early 1990's because they just aren't built like their vintage counterparts and use cheaper materials. I actually own a Marshall 4x12 1960bv cab and it does sound great but it has plastic casters and costs $950 new (got mine for 600 lol) where as a mesa cab has metal casters and is built much better. I also own a used 6505+($700) and it is simply an amazing amp in every sense of the word and blows any Marshall out of the water tone wise and I wouldn't trade it for any amp not even an engl or diezel
