Are there any 6-part trombone pieces out there?
-
At my school, we're having a trombone ensemble again. But this year, we got 6 people to be in it. Are there any 6-part pieces out there? If I don't find one, we'll end up doing 2 quartets, meaning 2 people would have to play & pay again.

Answer:
Hit all the Renaissance composers - folks like Gabrieli, Schutz, etc. Look around in www.imslp.org. I assume that you have already hit the usual places for printed brass music. Did you look at www.cdsheetmusic.com? How about - and I know this sounds odd - www.clarinetinstrutue.com. They carry a ton of public-domain things - you never know. And there is always 6-part choral music to look at - again, things turn up. Just saw this here - http://clarinetinstitute.com/44329%20Trombone%20Archives.htm Chamber Music for 5 and More Bach - Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (Trombone sextet) Beethoven - Quintet for Piano and winds Anon - Song of the Rebels for Brass Sextet Elgar - Nimrod for Brass Octet Faria, Pedro Henrique de - Sleep Fantasy No.1 for Trombone Quintet Fink - Legacy for Trombone Quintet Gabrielli - Kyrie for Brass Sextet Gastoldi - Amor Vittorioso for Brass Sextet Hassler - Verbum Caro Factum Est for Brass Sextet Marenzio - O Mille Volte for 8 Trombones Morley - Fyer My Heart for Brass Septet Morley - Phillis I Fain for Brass Septet Philips - Beati Estis for 8 Trombones Susato - La Mourisque for Brass Septet Susato - Mon Amy for Brass Septet Susato - Pavane Battaille for Brass Septet Utrecht - Pavane for 5 Trombones Vauter - Sweet Suffolk Owl for 5 trombones Vecchi - Coppia Real for Brass Octet Warnecke, Max - Concertpiece for Trombone, Op.28 (complete parts) WesenAuer, Peter - Concerto for 2 Trumpets, Trombone, and Strings (all parts)

http://www.rkingmusic.com is an excellent place to get all kinds of music. The founder, Robert KIng, began the company many years ago. He was a euphonium player, composer and arranger. Over time he was selling almost every available piece of music for brass instruments. The company still publishes the "Brass Players Guide." It cost $5.55, but you'll find all kinds of music - studies, solos and music for all kinds of ensembles. Even trombone sextet. In the past I referred to the guide many times.
