I want to learn how to play guitar, but is it a worthwhile hobby?
-
Hi i'm 19 and I want to spend £100 on this guitar pack, because I've had a keen interesting in acoustic guitars recently and music in general but I've never really attempted to dedicate time t learn an instrument. Link: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/epiphone-dr-90t-acoustic-player-pack-vintage-sunburst/52563 But before I do spend this money I have a few questions that i really need answers too. 1. I have virtually no musical experience, apart from compulsory music classes back in my early days of education. So is picking up guitar at this age a waste of time and money for me? 2. I'm a pretty fast learner usually but musical instruments are a different thing, so roughly how hard or how easy is it for you to learn how to play guitar? 3. How long did it take for you to learn the basic and beyond? Where you could create your own riffs and so forth (hope i've used the term 'riffs' correctly) 4. Finally, I think that I might ha've asked the question before but, is 19 or 20 years of age too old to learn how to play guitar? Thanks

Answer:
You're not too old to learn to play guitar. It's a very easy instrument to play in my opinion. It took a year to learn the basics, but I was little and since you're a fast learner if you work at it it won't take long. If you plan to not give up on it then it wouldn't be a waste of time or money. I've known how to play guitar for 4 years i think, but I was like 7 or 8 when I started for you'll be able to learn to create your own riffs and such much faster than I did.

Why does it have to be worthwhile? Just do it for the hell of it. 100 quid isn't much and if you like it you can flog the starter pack on eBay and buy a better one in a few years time. It's not too hard to get started. Get some guitar tab from magazines or from the internet, learn a few basic bar chords and you're away.

You're NEVER to old to learn how to play. What gave you that silly idea? Music is ALWAYS a worthwhile pursuit, regardless of how good you get or what you do with it. If you're a fast learner, you should be able to learn pretty easily. I have not learned to play guitar yet, but I would like to, and I recommend you go with your heart on this and learn to play guitar.

Hobbies are what you make them, unless some you have some sort of feel and ability then its going to be difficult to learn to play but if you keep at it you should be able to play a few tunes in a couple of months, its something you have to keep working at, even the top guitar players still spend many hours practicing.

Hi there! I definitely think you should take up some sort of musical hobby. I self-taught myself Piano, and I have got very far, and I am now getting lessons. I'm a teen too, and a musical instrument really does help you to express yourself! I would reccomend getting your instrument and experimenting with it. Then, try and work out some chords, you know the basic stuff, and then, if you are really interested, start getting lessons. There is nothing better than having someone who has experience, help you to learn to play an instrument. Hope this helps, and maybe we'll see you on Britain's got Talent soon? Aaron :)

this is for all guitar learners, once you get past the part where your fingers cannot stretch/reach/feel comfortable making chords, you'll become pro in no time. you can get past this bump, depending on how much you practice, in a few days. basically, all guitars easy to play, with enough practice. i just learn a song, play it over and over till i got it, then its stuck with me for life. never too old to learn something new. and guitars definitely a worthwhile thing, it cures boredom, is fun, can be life-changing.
