Should you learn how to play Guitar Hero or should you learn how to play a real guitar?

    I've been playing guitar for a very long time, most of my life. Because of that, I haven't been able to bring myself to play Guitar Hero, despite having many opportunities. I stick by the choice that I made in the first place, before Guitar Hero existed. I think you answered your own question here, when you said, "Nothing beats playing real instruments." I remember the moment I knew I could never pick up Guitar Hero. I was in Best Buy, rummaging through DVDs, when I heard some Black Sabbath song. I think it was Iron Man, but it might have been NIB. Anyway, I knew how to play the song, so subconsciously my hand by itself started playing air guitar to it. Then I found the source of this song, and this kid was rocking out on Guitar Hero, with a heightened level of excitement. I knew then I could never stoop to that level. It would be like getting out of your car, then going to the front of the supermarket and putting a quarter in one of those kiddy cars that just shake around, and then trying to compare the two as if they were equals. Sure, I'm being an arrogant prick about it, but I bet you see my point.

I wished I continued learning how to play the real guitar. You won't believe how many girls love a guy who knows how to play the guitar, besides it's also a good way to entertain a get together or the family. If you tell someone you know how to play guitar hero they'll just say wow, now if you say you play the guitar they'll get excited and want to hear you play. Go with learning how to play the real guitar.

Trick or Treat

You don't learn how to play guitar hero, it is a game. you just play it. There is no skill required and no learning required. Anyone can do it there first time. It is absolutely nothing like learning to play a real guitar. I have had several students that actually had the talent to play a real guitar but since guitar hero was so much easier they would never practice. That is a shame because it is not real. You will never become a musician by wasting your time on guitar hero

Definitely a real guitar. Playing a real guitar requires far more skill than learning how to play Guitar Hero. Also, you will use the skills of playing guitar for life, as opposed to being good at a video game. PS: I have Guitar Hero 5 on Wii and love it!

me personaly i would deff pic a real instrument because its sumthin u can use in the future nd if u learn to play a real guitar playing guitar hero will b easy

Real Guitar ... Guitar Hero can't simulate the feel of a real Les Paul through a cranked 50 watt Marshall and a 4x12 cabinet. it's raise the hair on the back of your neck. =)

Without trying to be a smart a**, I'd say it depends on what you want to achieve. If you want to learn guitar, you need to play guitar - if you want to learn Guitar Hero, you need to practice that. Personally, I always prefer the real thing, real guitars, real cars and real women ... not the "plastic fantastic" ones :-) Others will totally disagree - and that's cool!

Chicks dig a dude who can sing and play acoustic guitar. Once they find out you can play electric, it only gets better. So I'm gonna say real guitar. Ian E
