What is unique about the violin?

What does a teen need to begin playing violin?

  • I'm 15 years old and about 5' 2". I would really love to play violin but was told in my local music shop that only an instructor can show me what size I would need. Does anyone here know what size violin would fit someone my age? Are there any accessories that I need to buy? Can someone recommend a violin suitable for beginners and a great beginner's book series? I already play some piano and violin so don't need to learn how to read music. Any great violin website links would be helpful too. Thanks!

Learning to tune a violin can cause many to give up. I really believe you will be much better off starting with lessons or classes. After you know the basics then you may decide to go on your own.
