Which acoustic guitar should I buy? Which is the best?

What is the best acoustic guitar to buy for young beginner?

  • I've been looking to find reviews on woods wg24 1/2 size acoustic guitar on the web and haven't been able to find anything on this guitar. Also wondering if this one is better then the Woods 1/2 Size Nylon String Acoustic Guitar WCG24 for young beginners. I've been hearing nylon strings are better for young fingers. Also how does it compare to the yamaha 1/2 size guitars. I bought the woods wg24 but i have to go pick it up and i'm wondering if i made a good decision or not. Anyone specialize in guitars out there that can help me out in finding the best guitar for my little one to start out with. I'm pretty sure little martin and baby taylor are good choices but thinking unnessary to get for a beginner young one...whats your opinion!? Or should i look into a more expensive guitar like these.

It depends on the age and size of your child. When my son was 5 I got him a guitar from a local music store (it was a 1/2 size Ashville and cost about $30. I've been playing guitar since I was 7 and thought it would be a great gift for him. It doesn't stay in tune well but he enjoyed playing on it for a while and I even pick it up once in a while when I'm in his room. Now that he's 9 though, that guitar is really much too small for him and he should be playing a 3/4 size (like the Baby Taylor or Martin LXl if you want to spend $300). I have a student who plays a 3/4 size Yamaha and it is a pretty nice guitar for the size and price he paid (I think it was around $100). I honestly haven't heard of a Woods guitar (I'm guessing there's probably no solid wood on it). My advice would be to go to a real music store and try some out. Check to see how they stay in tune and how hard the strings are to press. Pluck the stings and make sure they don't buzz and rattle a lot. Finally, unless your child is very young (ie. 5 or 6) you should probably get a 3/4 size and I'd go with steel strings (again, unless the child is quite young). Don't spend a lot of money on a smaller guitar for a young child because it will get banged around and they'll outgrow it in a couple years. Nylon strings are good for very young kids but I'd go steel strings if they're over 8 years old, unless they want to play classical guitar.
