How do I sing high notes?

How can I sing high notes without using vibrato?

  • I can not sing high notes without using natural vibrato. It sounds good, but I'm 13 and it really stands out in a middle school choir. It's really embarising because I have a full sound aposed to the other girl's rather wimpy and I naturally stand out from the rest of the choir. I've been hiding my high notes from the teacher so no one can hear my vibrato. I really would like to sing comtrobly in front of a group and in a choir, but the only way I can do that is sing high notes without vibrato, but I cannot without my voice falling out.

    practice breath control.....the more you can control the power in your voice the more you won't stand out it's a good thing that you have a nice voice but in a choir you need to blend in and might i suggest getting a voice coach or better yet just ask your teacher he/she will be able to hepl besides that's what they're there for!

I'm a teenager also and I know what you mean about wanting to hide but be good and whatever. I take voice and am in a choir and I would say the best thing to do would be to try and do some breathing excercises to get more air and also to do scales or something going up with the piano away from your choir teacher and other peers. Try and push yourself up a note without vibrato every other day or something and with practice you should get it.

Controlling a natural vibrato takes a lot of mind control. It really is a "head game". You have to focus your sound up through the top of your head and use a lot of support from your diaphragm. Keep your mouth comfortably open (drop your jaw and keep your soft palate high). Ask your choir teacher if she can recommend a voice teacher. Some schools even have voice teachers who teach during your choir period once a week. I would really urge you to find a voice teacher, she can help you learn how to improve your voice and not damage it.
