Will I be called a poser for learning Guitar?

  • Ok question may sound stupid. But I am thinking about learning guitar. I have always wanted to learn guitar. But I don't know if this will be a good idea. I'm your type of guy that wears black clothing, etc. And I love video games and anime. I have always wanted to play a musical instrument. But I don't know how people will react to me if they saw me dressed in all black, stylish clothing. I have been dressing like this ever since Middle School and people had no problems getting along with me. Sometimes I may found my self hanging with the *cool* kids but I don't know why I always ended up having friends like that. The type of kids that wear black clothing and smoke, etc. Well I don't know, I don't smoke so I'm clean. The friends I hanged with didn't do drugs, All they did was smoke, or w/e. So I don't do any of that. Those friends did NOT do drugs. So please don't say anything, They were nice people. Yes I'm in High School and I'm a Senior. I was asking, Will I be called a poser if I got into learning Guitar? I don't like the whole emo label but I want to play Electric Guitar really bad. So no bad answers please. I really want to play an instrument. I like the guitar sound. What should I do drop the guitar act or move on? I always wanted to play it. I'm a nice guy so yeah.

    Your question makes me feel a bit sad. Why? Because you have the wonderful idea to learn to play the guitar, and yet you are holding yourself back by what others might say. If someone calls you a poser, would that really be so terrible? Do what YOU want to do. Btw, I am learning the guitar too, and it is so much fun!

Forget what others tag you as. Its not telling me that all GUITAR players are mostly posers since they were influenced by others. Learn the instrument and enjoy the moment and FORGET what others tag you as. When I learnt the guitar, it was because I loved it and still do. Its like you are married to it.

I don't think learning an instrument makes you a poser! i mean whoever thinks like that, needs a reality check. If its what you want to do go for it, i hope you have fun learning.

I would never call you a poser and if anybody would they're not worth listening to. As a musician (I play a tenor sax) I love to see people interested in music past just listening to whatever is on the radio station. I say go for it because you will never regret learning an instrument. Music is an incredible gift that can change you and stick with you no matter where you go in this life. Do it and I promise you won't regret it

i think that since you are learning it because you want to learn it you are safe. if you wanted to learn it to be cool, you would totally be called a poser. you may have some stupid people who will call you a poser because they don't take the time to get to know you, but you REALLY shouldn't care about that. learning an instrument is rewarding, and if you wnat to learn, learn.

Ummm....PLAY GUITAR. I play, it is pretty much my favorite thing in the world. Who care what people think. If you think you will enjoy playing, PLAY! You will not regret it.
