How do I get over stage fright?

I have stage fright...how do i get over it?

  • So in like 2 months i have to perform in a talent show with my band at school (i play drums). Our last singer quit because of stage fright and now we have a new singer. I don't want to quit the band but i just want to know how i can get over stage fright. I was in a performance before but it wasn't for my band it was for my class and i didn't take a big part in it. My question is how do i get over stage fright? Quitting my band is not an option

  • Answer:

I had the same problem when i started playing drums in band. I thought hey if i get a easy part no one will notice me. about a quarter month in i didn't have important parts but i had the loudest. I played crash cymbal and suspended cymbal parts. I would shake horribly when i would perform, but when i finally performed at Competition i didn't shake and i was right on time. then about a month later i got the snare part to the same song and the snare part was a very big part in the song. I would shake and add a few extra notes when i played. when i went to the next big performance i knew i wasn't gonna just stop shaking this time. my Friend must've noticed how nervous i was and told me to pretend i was in practice, i did and i can honestly say i played the part perfect. after that i wasn't nervous to perform anymore even when i got put on bass 4 in marching. point is try to perform a few times minorly and then when it comes to your big performance try to think of it just like practice.

Picture that you are in practice with your friends and the crowd are the four corner walls. OR ask you parents or sibling to watch you perform in practice. Practice enough but not to much and remember being nervous is not a bad thing. When performing, partly close your eyes and sing along. At least you're not the lead singer.

U will b fine. No one really even notices when the drummer messes up if the band is able to keep the rhythm going anyways. I used to get stage fright when I performed at school, but never when I performed in for t of complete strangers, so I just imagined that everyone was a complete stranger. Now I have more self confidence and experience so my stage fright is basically gone. U just have to believe in your self and practice practice practice and with a little more experience ur stage fright will go away.

Oh my lord, join the club. I had stage fright too. ALL MY LIFE, but i'm in high school now and thank god it's gone now although of course i still get nervous. I got over it because I keep asking myself. What's the worst that can really happen? What's there to be scared of? Are you scared of what people would think about it and laugh? well they can just suck it then because you're the one who has the guts to do it in front of everyone. You're braver then you think by performing even though you have stage fright. Keep practicing and try to make the mistakes in REHEARSAL and make sure to remember your music by heart and all. if you guys mess up try to have a plan b to make sure everything looks like it was planned. my music teacher told me, only YOU know if you made the mistake, the people watching? don't know it. they haven't been to your rehearsals, they don't know how it actually sounds like. I wish you luck, i find it very cool you play drums, i do too! (:
