Advice on buying a new flute?

I'm looking for advice on buying a new flute.?

  • I'm a 15 year old high school student who is currently in marching band. I have a very basic student Armstrong flute. It is in-line and open-hole. After being in marching band for about half a year, my flute is becoming very technically challenged and I'm trying to convince my mother to invest in a intermediate to professional flute. I would say our price range is around $1,000 to $2,000. I want suggestions for brands from experienced flute players because I don't want to end up buying an expensive piece of crap. My only stipulations is that it be in-line key, open hole, and have a b-foot.

  • Answer:

I have a Sonare 501 flute which plays great!! it's cost me $1000 and i have no problems with it. I also had an opportunity to buy a Jupiter (sorry don't know what model) but it sounded great but cost about 300 more. so for an intermediate flute 1000-2000 price range is great. I recommend the Sonare brand (it's headjoint is made by Powell) good luck :D oh and before you buy ask the music store is you can take it home and play it for a week. see if you like it and try out another flute. pick the one you like the most and buy it.
