Beginner guitar player.. should I get 3/4 or full size acoustic?
-
I am in love with this guitar http://www.lunaguitars.com/acousticproduct/safaristarry.php But it is 3/4 size.. would it be a bad thing if I played it? would it be hard to transition to full size and/or electric guitar since its not full size? I'm 16 btw. If you don't think I should get it, what other sites can I get interesting acoustic guitars from? I hate the kinds that are just a boring tan, and maybe with a strip of a darker wood on it. But I don't want something cheesy like Daisy Rock. Thank you!

Answer:
You need to decide whether you want to learn to play guitar or if you want a decoration. If it's the former then you need to get a full size guitar. Otherwise just get the decorative one and it will look nice sitting in the corner of your room. There are plenty of non-boring full size acoustic guitars, by the way.

You are certainly immature for a 16-year-old. You're looking to buy the wrong size guitar because it looks pretty? Gimme a break.

If you love the guitar, then buy the guitar. Then you will find out how fleeting love can be, and then you could learn to play the blues on a real guitar. As for Daisy Rock, they make some decent guitars actually. Now, as for you to know, all the paint and finish on a guitar subtracts from the sound. However, Satin finishes are better than gloss, and your guitar does have a Satin finish - so the paint won't subtract too much from the sound. But good guitars have solid wood tops, and better have solid wood backs and sides (like the Silver Creek). There are guitars that look and sound good, but they typically cost a lot. There are lots of fancy burl gloss finishes that Ibanez and other companies use and the guitars look cool, but still don't sound that great. But playing guitar is about what makes you happy, and if a nice looking guitar makes you happy, then get the damn thing and tell everyone else to shove off!

If you are seriously going to play then you would need a full size guitar. Im sure there are other guitars out there that are full size and not just the color of wood. Grizzly makes guitar kits so you can design and build your own guitar. I made my own electric guitar, im sure you could handle the acoustic if you really have to have something with a design on it.

You should definetely not buy it. You need a full size. When I was 11(six years ago), I started with a full size guitar. And first of all, i agree its pretty but you need to pick a guitar more based on the sound and quality of it, not how pretty it is. And another thing, Daisy Rock is not cheesy. You obviously have no judgement to make on guitars. They are actually very good quality. My best advice, would be to look around at guitar stores...they come in all different colors etc...sense obviously all you care about is the way the guitar looks..

3/4 scale guitars are meant for children so they can get their hands around the neck, and their arm over the top of the body. you being 16, I would say you're not going to have that problem. Please, do not order a guitar off the internet, go to a music store. the quality will be better, and you wont have to worry about it not playing right after a few days.

well i dont recommend a little one because once you get good you will want a bigger and better one i recommend looking at ibanez, they play really good and sound good for cheap, also they have some nice colors, http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-AW30-ARTWOOD-SERIES-Acoustic-Guitar-512309-i1441935.gc http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-AW30-ARTWOOD-SERIES-Acoustic-Guitar-512309-i1441935.gc or http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-AEG20E-Acoustic-Electric-Flame-Sycamore-Top-103036620-i1166458.gc

In the ad it states it's a "travel guitar," so there's nothing wrong with getting a guitar like this. It's much like getting a little Martin Backpacker. One thing to consider, and DEFINETLY find out about is...sometimes smaller guitars are not tuned to standard guitar tuning, meaning E-A-D-G-B-E. It may be tuned to A? A-D-G-C-E-A Sometimes smaller guitars are not able to handle regular guitar tuning. This won't be a problem...the guitar and chord shapes will all be the same, unless you're playing with other musicians, in which case you'll have to play different chord shapes to be on the same pitch. With the above example, and everyone else playing an E chord, you'd have to play what looks like a B chord to be in tune. I'm a long time subscriber to the bible of guitarists....Guitar Player Magazine, and surprisingly, the Daisy Rock line of guitars consistently get very good reviews for playability and tone, so do not discount this line of guitars if you want something flashy.

Luna guitars are actually quite nice and, despite what some of the others have said, looks do count for something (not as much as sound though). But you really should get a full size guitar unless you're a very tiny 16 year old. Have you looked at the other Luna models? They have some very nice ones. You might also like the Takamine Jasmine guitars although they're not all painted up like that. Too bad they don't make a full size Starry Night guitar. I have a Parker electric guitar. It's a great guitar and very distinctive looking. They make acoustics as well: http://cgi.ebay.com/PARKER-PA24-INTRIGUE-SERIES-ACOUSTIC-GUITAR-BLACK-/380244680876?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar&hash=item58885960ac This is not only a disctinctive looking guitar but also remarkably built and nice sounding. There are options out there if you look around. You could also get a plain tan guitar and paint it yourself if you were so inclined.
