How to sing better?

Tips on how to sing better?

  • Okay, so ever since I was in 6th grade ( Am now in 9th grade ) I've been choir, and I love singing <3 And, I've been taught by my previous choir teacher to sing with your head voice. So that's how I've been singing for the past 3 years. A few weeks ago, I auditioned for a school musical, and I started singing. After my first song, the judges asked if I could not use my head voice. I had no idea how to sing without using my head voice. And when I didn't use my head voice, I sounded terrible. -_- And, to my dismay, I realized that when I sing with my head voice, it doesn't sound right, or good, or whatever. I tried to practice not using my head voice, but I'm having trouble with that. And, I have trouble hitting high notes ( And I'm a soprano ) when I do hit high notes, it's quiet, and my voice is shaky. :/ And I have a bit of an accent, and it shows in my singing, making me sound unprofessional. ( Not that I was to begin with, but, I just don't sound good ) And, I tend to sing through my throat ( And it bothers me a lot ) But, I don't know how not to sing with my throat. Of course I know how to sing with my diaphragm, but when I do ( or try ) My voice it quiet, and I sound off. I could really use some tips. Thank you so much :) <3

So, i did some research, and i found out that its okay to switch between your head and chest/throat voice. Your head voice allows you to sing the higher notes, whereas your chest/throat voices offers the lower notes. So, your comment ^ is very true! it does depend on your song choice.

At least you know how to sing with your diaphragm. I'm in choir too so I know how you feel. Since you sing quite on high notes and you said you are shaky 2 I can give u some advice. When I was younger I couldn't get the high notes either. But if u practice a high scale for 1/2 an hour a day 6 days a week. U should be able to get them in no time. Hope I was helpful. Bye!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not your voice that's quiet, that would be you.. Don't worry-- first make sure you don't have a sore throat, which I would suggest you use a neti pot if you have one and just drink a lot of liquids and DON'T take any halls. Don't scream and try to go on vocal rest for a few days and see what happens. Make sure you warm up and if you DO have a sore throat, whispering is the worst thing you can do. If it's hard to get notes out; it could be serious.. try to talk to a voice teacher at your school. You could consider getting a voice teacher- you don't necessarily need to be a beginner to have one, it's just extra help whenever needed. Singing shouldn't come from your throat; you should be able to feel it in your "mask" or some kind of vibration near your nose lol-- I know that sounds weird.. you should ask someone about that too. You don't sing with your diaphragm either, that's where your breath is lol Maybe you're not a soprano... not to doubt your ability or anything but maybe you were just told you were but if you're not and you want to be then voice lessons are definately a good idea!! Sorry I wrote so much and I hope it makes sense >.< Hope I helped n_n
