Can you put a Floyd rose on any guitar?

How to change strings on a floyd rose guitar? READ THE DESCRIPTION!?

  • Here is what I do, but I always end by breaking the string, so read and tell me what is it that I do wrong. 1. I first take off the nuts on the head joint. 2. Then I loosen the strings. 3. I put a dinning knife between body and the floyd rose to keep him parallel. 4.I loosen the screws on the floyd rose and I take off the strings, and put the fine-tuners at the same height. 5. I clean the fretboard. 6. I cut off the ball on the new strings and I lock them in the floyd rose. 7 Now I tie the string to the tuners. 8. I tune the strings and then I pas few times with my finger underneath the strings and tune them again. 9 I repeat the step 8 few times. Now this is when everything goes down, I just can't get my guitar to pe in tune and the floyd rose to be parallel with the body. It always ends by me adjusting the springs, tuning trying to get the guitar in tune and the strings get really tight, and in the end one string breaks, please tell me what to do, I can't take it to the store and give them to do it for me, I have done that in the past but it's getting a bit expensive and I can't afford it.

here is a great way to set up the floyd: block the floyd where you want it. do this by using a piece of wood or a stack of coins, anything to get it where you want it. you block it in the string cavity between the metal block where the strings attach and the back of the body. remove 2 of the springs and leave one. put the strings on. the tension of the strings will hold the block in place. tune the guitar, it will tune like a regular non-trem guitar now. this is the position you want the trem with the strings tuned. I usually let the guitar sit for a day to let the strings stretch properly or you can stretch them slightly by hand. once the tuning is stable, lock the strings at the headstock and re-tune. now, this is the trick: put the two springs back in, you should have at least 3. remove the block. every thing goes to crap right? but with the strings clamped at the head stock and the trem the guitar would be in tune if the trem was at the same position as it was when it was blocked, right? so tune the D string WITH the spring tension screws in the spring cavity on the back of the guitar, there should be two of them so use both. if the D string is flat, screw them in tighter, if the D string is sharp loosen the spring tension screws. when the D string is in tune the overall tuning should be very close. do your final tuning. you may need to re-block it to unlock the strings at the headstock and tune with the tuners there if you run out of thread on the fine tuners at the trem. you can also intonate the bridge saddles when the block is in. this method has worked for me countless times. more info: if the spring tension screws come out, remove the middle spring and try again. if the spring tension screws go in too far, add a spring.

Then stop changing string gauges! If you have a 9-42 set on there, replace it with another 9-42 set. The tension when tuned to pitch will be the same as the old set and you won't have to adjust the springs. Also, instead of using a knife to hold the bridge level when you're changing the strings, stick a bunch of guitar picks inside the cavity between the bridge block and the body. It's much more convenient and doesn't run the risk of marring the surface of the guitar.

I'm pleased to say I've never had a guitar fitted with a Floyd Rose so I'm CERTAINLY no expert, but I though is was a really BAD idea to change all the strings at once? Isn't it better to change them one at a time so that the change in tension is as little as possible?
