Is this acting/modeling school a scam?

Is Barbizon Acting and Modeling school a Scam? I got a call from them this morning. I've heard you have to pay about $1500 - 5000 for classes. I've read that some people are very satisfied with what Barbizon classes and others aren't. Also, if it is a scam, how come people like Nicole Anderson came out successful? I want to know if I should go to their audition. Please and Thank you. :]

Answer:
Most schemes which cold call people (such as this), are usually up to no good. Any company that rings up and offers a service, but requires you to pay a fee upfront is almost certainly a scam. What i would advise is to look locally for a dance/modelling school, and then get in touch with them. Most would invite you to look around and try a taster session, then you can decide after whether to join or not

yes its a true scam. the agencies laugh when they hear there's such a thing as modeling school. acting school is different though because its like performing theater, but there's no such thing as modeling school those are just scams. some people come offsuccessfull from this because they already carry the talent, its not so much that theyappliedd to that but that they already knew they could do something with what they have so they thought it'll be a good idea even if you don't need it. ok well gooluck with everything hope this helps :)
yes, if a modeling company wants you, they will not ask you for money. They plan on making money off of you as soon as possible, that doesn't include time to teach you stuff. You either have it or you don't. don't give anyone money to make you a model, they should either believe in you enough to get you jobs, or not.

They all are.An agency will hire you if you have the look, then they will teach you.Stay away and save your money. If you want to be a model, visit the agencies. If you want to be an actress, take drama classes and act in local theatrical productions for experience.

Purr..
Casablanca's, Barbizon, JRP and any of the other Modeling schools are just that - a school. These places have open calls (sometimes they just get your number somehow and call you or send you something in the mail). They'll charge you thousands of dollars for training and photos. Here's the thing - they're business is training, that's what they do. And when you spend your entire week trying to get model hopefuls to buy classes it doesn't leave alot of time to book work for the models. See where I'm going? I've been in this business for over 8 years and I have yet to meet a model who did the school thing and felt the overly inflated prices they paid were worth it. And none of them got any work from the school they enrolled in. If you want to get into modeling and your serious about it then I would encourage you to work with people who are serious about developing your talent - not just interested in your checkbook. A great place to visit would be OneModelPlace.com - it's a huge online community. You can network, find photographers to worth with (many of which will help you build a portfolio for free) and depending on where in the country you are you might even find some work there. Best of all, for models, OMP is free to join. As with anything on the Internet, DO YOUR RESEARCH before working with anyone. Check references and always bring an escort with you to any shoot. Model Mayhem is another great site and my company has launched a model network site, JazeConnections.com - which is also free to join. if you have other questions feel free to contact me. Good Luck!
