To be an expert takes a lifetime (and even then there's still something to learn). My guitar teacher's been playing guitar for a years and even he doesn't know everything about the guitar. It's endless. The guitar is easy or hard depending on your attitude. Yes, you'll be frustrated, but if you really want to play you'll turn your frustration into motivation and push forward. If you decide to take it up and have high musical goals (ie. you want to play guitar like a famous guitarist), then get lessons. (And never say that you don't have talent. You do. You just haven't discovered it yet and maybe guitar will be it).

First of all you have to drop the idea that you have no talent. IMHO talent will contribute much less than what you think.Yes it will help but talent without practice can do nothing. Guitar is not an easy instrument to play especially in your first year learning. You should have a lot of patience and dedication. Some of my friends that learned guitar from me (I'm not a guitar instructor) took one year to play and sing along. Ideally you should jam together with an experienced guitar player if possible. That will make your life easier. Have fun with your guitar, GBU

It takes time and practice. Go to school and ask your music teacher where you could take lessons. It depends if your gonna strum or pick. Picking is harder.
you can start buy picking up some old issues of guitar magazines on ebay search ebay / books / guitar. they have songs already transcribed so you can play them although not as fast or as smooth as you would like at first but keep working or practicing a piece of music until you can make the song sound smooth and at the correct pace or time. stay away from "easy" guitar tableture. you want "note for note" guitar tab or tableture. guitar world magazine and guitar one magazine has both electric and acoustic guitar songs. guitar world acoustic is acoustic guitar songs only. you will find a lot of electric guitar songs actually sound good played on an acoustic guitar. taking lessons will teach you the correct way to hold the guitar, hold the pick or finger pick and how to hold down cords. then you learn different scales, modes, and styles of guitar music. if you learn classical music on the guitar you can play anything. classical guitar uses harder chord shapes to hold. a lot of rock music uses partial chords instead of the full chord or use a chord to play a series of fast notes as part of a solo. so if you can play classical and hold the full chords rock music will seem like a vacation playing wise. classical is harder buy well worth the time to learn.

its fairly easy to start off with, but as you begin to learn harder pieces it gets harder. but it would probably be the easiest instrument to begin playing, thats why so many people choose to play it. iv been playing guitar for almost 7 years, if you want to be a more serious player maybe go get a guitar book from a store and learn to play from that, or even get guitar lessons. if you just want to be able to play some simple songs, and sing along with it, then maybe you could just use tabs.. i suggest using www.ultimate-guitar.com thats the site i get all my tabs off.

Please don't listen to these people. Learningto play the guitar is easy if you really, really, really want to learn. There's just a few things you need to do. 1. First and foremost, you NEED to stop telling yourself that you have no talent. There was a time in my life when I never EVER thought I was smart enough to learn to play a guitar. I thought I lacked the finger strength and dexterity it took to play. I got over it as I started to learn and progress through my lessons, and eventually, I was banging away on chords. I then learned a few things independent of my lessons through friends and people I met, and BOOM! I was banging away on bar chords and power chords! Then, when the internet started offering free TAB lessons, I began to learn pentatonic scales, and I began to learn to play lead guitar! Now I am doing shows with a local band! Pardon the bragging, but you just gotta know... if a moron like me can do it, SURELY you can! 2. You need to ask yourself: How badly do you want to be a guitarist?... is it something you KIND OF want to do?... like when you have time to practice... or is learning to play the guitar like going to be the PINNACLE OF YOUR ENTIRE EXISTANCE?... Also, while we're asking, How far do you want to take this?... Do you just want to sinbg "Kumbaya" around a campfire with some drunk buddies once in awhile?... or do you want to get in front of an audience and shred strings for a LIVING? Also consider: Is this something you will enjoy doing and look forward to doing no matter how many times you have to do it, or is this going to be like a lot of work and hastle and frustration? Depending on how you enjoy learning to play the instrument coupled with how badly you want to learn to play, and play while you are learning, is probably going to be a direct deciding factor in how far you go with it, and how easy it is for you ro learn. 3. In regards to the time it takes to become an expert: The only answer I can properly give you is UNTIL. -Until you learn all the skills you will need to perform and you decide to stop learning -Until you decide to stop playing guitar -Until you die or lose a finger or a hand or something happens to you that causes you to not be able to play anymore A true master of the instrument can make it talk, cry, sing, even think... and can acknowledge that (s)he STILL has things to learn about playing it. It sounds to me that you want to take the path of the rythym player. This is a wise place to start.

It depends on how much dedication and free you have. Within you could be good and effortlessly do it. But Guitar is a never ending journey of learning and improving yourself as a guitarist if that's what you seek. As for your Voice if its good. Focus point should be your guitar playing learn some notes learn some songs. To set you in the right path www.Justinguitar.com he has a beginner course on that. Good luck

Try taking some lessons and learning some cords. It can take years to become really good, but with a few cords your could do some simple folk music
