Which is easier to learn jazz bass guitar or jazz guitar?

Need some help on joining Jazz Band next year. (bass guitar)?

• I've been playing bass guitar for 2 years and I am interested in joining jazz band to expand my skills on the bass guitar and have an extracurricular activity. I don't know any music theory but I have until the second part of next year to get back with my bass teacher and learn music theory. Will this be enough time for me to get good and eventually make it during auditions? Also I know this is sort of a stupid reason NOT to join jazz band. I don't really know alot of people, only about 3 people and most of the people in band are geeks at my school. But I thought to myself, "Hey this is the second half of your junior year, after next year no one is going to care what you did once your in college and it's only benefiting yourself."

  Just really learn how to play by ear and use a fakebook for helping you to be able to flow through chords and maintain the tempo of the music you'll be playing good luck
