Girls: If you sing...Help me Please?
-
Okay i really love singing! And i have to admit, i dont sound THAT bad, of course theres better, and way prettier girls out there that are obviously better then me (Singing is practically a beauty contest now, which sucks!) But when i sing loud and high, it sounds great! and im not afraid to sing like that =) But when it requires a soft quiet voice, it seems like my vocal chords say "nope, you suck" and i KNOW i can sing like that, but its hard! I heard theres a certain way to sing, and im pretty sure i can sing like that, but how do i make my voice go Soft, Quiet and High, that sounds nice =) Im planning on auditioning my school Musical in February (the more i practice, the more i get better at it) , and im going for the lead, i already know how to go loud and high (sounds great by the way) but i just need to go Soft and pretty. Help please? Best answer that helps me gets 20+ points!!! Kelsey ♥ P.S Please dont say "You cant, its impossible" Everyone could sing if they just practice, i know im sounding like i need to listen to my own advice but i need someone with experience who knows how i wanna sing, so they (could be you) can tell me themselves =)

Ok here's a real answer;) haha Ok I'm A sophmore in highschool and got a 1 rating at district contest for my vocal solo AND ensemble. (Thats the best you can get) So I went to state for my solo and ensemble as a FRESHMAN. I've been taking private lessons from a proffesor for several years now and here is my advice. When you go high and need to sing softly make sure the back of your throat is open. Don't pinch it. Make sure you have a good vowel sound (shape your lips:) To help with the practice stick an Oreo cookie vertically in your mouth. haha its fun) Also, make sure you're warmed up. You can't sing very well if your vocal chords aren't warm. Just like a runner is not going to perform well if they don't do a couple warm up laps:) You can always go get some help from your choir director. I"m sure they would be glad to help. Hope that gave you a little information:)

I would suggest voice lessons. You probably only need a few lessons, but it can really help, i've been taking voice lessons for a few years now and it has really improved my voice (I had a good voice before, but know it's even better). Voice teachers can teach you how to sing many pitches and many volumes. If you don't have time for lessons than there are a lot of good youtube videos on singing. Hope this helped!!

try tieing (sorry im not sure how to spell that) and elastic band just below your rib cage. when you breathe in you should feel it stretch. make sure you keep yuor vocal chords as open as possible but the sound needs to come fromt he diaphram (under rib cage). With quieter sounds, if you really cant do it, singin a little through your head voice helps. you should feel that in your head. i am kinda opposite to you, its easier for me to sing quietly. im sorry if im not that good at explaining though. hope i helped

I love to sing too, it's something I've always loved. Right now they're making me sing low when I can sing high -.-. I'm fine with low, but I know I can be better high. But in your musical, if you can convince whoever's in charge to say you're good with a loud voice! If that doesn't work, just go look up some tips to singing better, or something. Maybe google it :]! I know this isn't much help, or any in fact, but I hope you get the part!

If you want a part, make friends with the drama people, you know, the kinds that are suck-ups to the play director, and convince them to convince him you're the best.

When I want to sing soft, I relax my stomach muscles (diaphragm) and vocal chords and push less air through my vocal chords to make the note. More like a speaking voice with a little bit of a whisper in it. Pick one line of a song and SAY it in a normal speaking voice. Notice how much your muscles are being used in your stomach and throat. Then sing that line but just use one note - and recreate the same pressure you used for speaking the sentence. Once you can sing it in the loudness you want using one note, try the rest of the melody. Hope this helps you.
