Which jazz club in Paris is better to choose?

Should I be in drama club or take a solo dance class next year?

  • Okay, so I’ve always had a problem with signing up for too much to the point where I get sick, over stimulated, I start to do badly in school…you get the picture. And so, next year I’m hoping not to get in so far over my head. This means I’m going to have to choose between taking part in drama club this year, or taking an extra dance class at my studio. I’ve made (and included below) a pros/cons list, but I still can’t decide. Any help? Extra Dance Class: Pros: 1.The studio is my place of work, so showing extra dedication is always nice in the eyes of employers 2.It would be a solo class, and I’ve wanted to have a solo since I was eight years old. 3.I love dancing, 4.I probably won’t have my tap dancing class since the tap dancing teacher is going to have a baby and won’t teach this coming year, meaning I’d have the same amount of dance classes I have this year, but more times a week. Cons: 1.It’s much more anti-social, and I’m someone who needs social interactions 2.I don’t have many close friends through the studio, so again, I’d be lacking that social interaction someone like me needs. 3.It’s very expensive. (Cost of a jazz class + two ballet classes + a solo class (which is already more than the group lessons) (+ maybe! A tap class) = A LOT. And money’s really tight for my family right now. My salary as a teacher's assistant can't cover all that (parents help, but again, money's tight!). Drama Club: Pros – 1.I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE theatre! 2.The social interactions! My school is divided weirdly—the Jr. High is 8th and 9th graders, and the high school is 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. I’m going to be in 10th grade this year, which means I’ll never get to see my friends the year under me (including one of my very best friends, a bunch of other fun people, and the guy I’m absolutely head-over-heels for) 3.I’ll also be around people older than me, meaning if I have problems with Algebra II or Chemistry, I can ask someone who already went through it and understands it for help Cons – 1.The director doesn’t like my family much. My sister’s a bit high-maintence, and she was in drama club before me, and got my mother to give a lot of complaints to the guy (who, I’ll admit, IS a pain in the rear-end), so I don’t know what kind of treatment he’ll give me. 2.As mentioned before, the director is a pain in the rear-end. Additional Info: I will be able to take my usual dance classes and be in drama club (as all practices are required to end at 5:00 by the principal), but I’m worried that if I take the solo class, and try to be in the play, I’ll be in over my head. Also, to take into consideration, I’m a word-smart person, and in addition to being in an Honor’s English class, I’m taking two Junior (I'm a sophomore) Classes in areas that aren’t my forte—meaning Algebra II and Chemistry, though I’m taking the easiest route I can for those subjects (i.e - Essentials of Chemistry, and Algebra II over two years, so I'll only get the first half of Algebra II this year) So—additional dance class, drama club, or should I try and brave both?

  • Answer:

I love how clearly you've conveyed your problem, though I am a bit surprised that you can't make a decision. If you'd like my opinion, you should go for drama club. I think all directors are pains in the ***. It their job; nothing would get done otherwise! Just remember, though: behind that tough exterior is another person. When the director of my HS drama club wasn't yelling at us to enunciate or forcing us to re-sing a song a dozen times she was a pretty awesome person. As for your sister, I believe that if you make it a point to show both your love of theatre and how unlike your sister you are, you should be fine. I also believe that your dance classes and job is a lot of time spent at the studio. I think it would help if you try to socialize there as much as you do at school. I hope I helped! If I think of anything else to add I'll be sure to update!
