What is a good electric guitar for beginning guitar player?

Do you have any tips for a beginning guitar player?

  • I'm a 15 year old girl and I've got a really nice acoustic guitar my uncle gave me.I'm really getting excited about learning how to play it.The only thing is,I'm left handed and I'm going to try to play right handed. How hard do you think it will be?I'm willing to practice as long as it takes in order to be able to play. And do you have any tips in general for a beginning guitar player?I'm not gonna have a teacher,my parents say they're too expensive.I know there's videos on Youtube I can watch, but are they as good as having a real life teacher there?Thank you!!!!!

  • Answer:

You have nothing to worry about being left handed. It should actually give you an advantage, as you will have stronger fingers on the hand that will be holding chords and notes on the neck of the guitar. To learn guitar, you have to play it EVERY DAY, and you have to do it for at least an hour or so. The more you practice, the easier it will get, as you will build calluses and strength each time you play. The best piece of advice I can offer is to keep rhythm. If you mess up, just keep going. Play it over and over, and each time it will sound better than the last. I've known people to pick up a guitar for only a year and be absolutely amazing at it. Just know that this is something you have to practice at a lot.

get a book of scales and chords. practice the scales and chords alot. then try to learn simple songs, get the tabs online or in a book. w/e. then as you are able to play those, try tougher songs and so forth.

Whoa! Your left handed? Then you'll have to play left handed, there's no way around it. Doing it the way you suggested would be nearly impossible. Some of the most famous guitar players were left handed, and they played right handed guitars by turning them upside down. I would suggest buying a guitar book, or browsing the internet for instructions. I play guitar, myself. I can tell you more. Do you use an instant messenger? If so, let me know what your screen name is, and i'll chat with you some more, and answer more questions that you have! ^_^

My son learned to play guitar by himself and the internet. He knows how to read music, so that helped. He pulls all kinds of information off the net for his songs, etc. Now he instructs kids on how to play the guitar. Yes, watch those videos, read, practice. Every day. You sound like you are really enthusiastic about it, so great!! Enjoy. You have to make time every day to get better and better.

A friend of mine learned how to play by watching instructional YouTube Videos. I'll check to see if they have any left-hand vids. YouTube Search: Left Handed Guitar Lessons http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Left+Handed+Guitar+Lessons&search_type=&aq=f

Guitar is easy to learn if you approach it w/ that mind-set. Look up guitar tabs to your favorite songs; this is a fun way to learn. They tell you where to place your fingers on the strings (w/ numbers).

TURN BACK NOW!!! well, actually, if you can read music. then just crack down and practice regularly. very simple. if you can't learn. Or just do tabs. or maybe just experiment on your own
