Hi. My high school choir is doing some songs from Wicked. We have sang For Good and I think it is a really pretty song. Maybe you should do that one. Good luck! P.s. I think it's about 2 minutes long. I'm not sure though. Also, I'm sure you don't have to sing the whole song. :)

Ballads tend to not show off the full range of your voice in terms of technique. They tend to put auditioners to sleep and don't stand out at all. Choose something with more texture that will show your capabilities better. I've always had luck with songs like "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" from Sweeny Todd, by Stephen Sondheim. The sheet music is readily available, it's beautiful, it shows off a range of voice, emotion, and techinique and although it is known it isn't as overused as some of the others you mentioned. Don't worry about length, as they will cut you off if they need to, but do be prepared with an additional, totally different song in case they would like to hear you do something else.

Of these songs I would suggest FOR GOOD because it is a song that a lot of show choirs are doing these days, and do not worry about the length, the people who audition will just stop you when it is time. Just a thought., Actually any song is really ok, my daughter auditioned for high school show choir with "I AM NOT THAT GIRL" from WICKED, Good luck

I would pick either For Good or Once upon a December. I don't think your director will appreciate Mandy Moore or Celine Dion to be completely honest. For Good is probably your best bet, because you can pick just one section to sing (when it's just Glinda if you're a high soprano) because usually directors have to hear lots of people and don't have the time to hear an entire song. They'll probably just cut you off but I'm sure you could just practice one section and then ask them to sing section B-C for example. That way you'll get to sing what's most comfortable for you. ** If you're singing accapella you might want a pitch pipe so you can get your starting note. Good luck!! <3 <3
