Is there a possible way of me teaching myself how to play the guitar?
-
I've always wanted to learn how to play. I bought a first act electric guitar & amp from Toys R Us. (I know all you professional guitar players are like "eww first act guitars suck" but it's all I can afford and wanna practicing until I get good) I can't really afford lessons or know anyone who knows how to play. Is there a good way to learn online or something. I've taught myself how to play the a minor/major, e minor/major, d, g, and c chords. I really need some help after that. I really need help and I'm a fast learner. I tried YouTube but I don't really know who the best teacher is for me.

Answer:
Teaching your self. Do you want to learn all that great guitar players learn, or do you want to be able to play some fun songs right away. Most of us are not patient enough to go through so much that some teachers and web sites want you to do. Hunt through as many web sites as you can find (Beginning Guitar) until you find one that works for you. If you want to speed up the process and not stumble through the learning process. Find a good teacher. Teaching your self is the most popular way to learn guitar. Millions have tried it. Many encourage beginners to do it. Some succeed. Maybe you could be one of them. It sounds like a great idea. After all it is free, and you can learn at your own pace. No teacher to tell you what you have to do. There are thousands of books, videos and internet sites to help. Some of the internet sites are even free. Why are there so many books, videos and internet sites to help? Because few can learn using the one that was recommended, so the player starts looking for something else. Some who want to learn on their own, go to the books and videos since they are cheaper than lessons. Music stores sell so many books. (Last time I checked at the local music store there were 27 different beginner guitar books) Quite a few videos. The music stores also have guitar classes and private lessons. Some schools have class lessons. The lesson prices are more. Sometimes a class for 3 to 6 months may cost less than one private lesson. I assume you want to succeed. You might do it by any of the methods, The Internet site seems to have the most failures, Videos do a bit better but still almost all quit during the first year. Private lessons have a better record. Only 2/3 quit the first year. Surprising to many your best chance of still playing the guitar after one year is to take classes. Classes allow you to see and hear what the teacher and other students are doing. It also allows them to see and hear you and to help you to solve the many problems and questions that you will have. The choice is yours.

I taught my self guitar I've been playing for a year. Keep learning new chords and tabs dong worry about lessons from anyone else. I suggest for finger picking reasons to train how to nit use a pick your fingers will get used to it =) just keep learning new songs and stuff practice everyday switch between all your chords to bring up your speed. And learn tabs so they keep getting harder as you skill level progresses hope I helped =)
My first guitar was a first act strat copy. Once you change the strings its not too bad, especially for the price. You can definitely teach yourself the basics. Get the chords down, build your callusses, strumming, finger picking maybe. Once you've decided that you got the basics down, take some lessons and learn scales

>>(I know all you professional guitar players are like "eww first act guitars suck" but it's all I can afford and wanna practicing until I get good) << You're missing the point completely; it's not that we're snobs, it's that First Act guitars are of such poor quality that they'll hold you back by making it too difficult to learn on. I'm not saying that beginning guitarists need to spend a fortune on their fist guitars - just enough to get some minimum quality that will not interfere with your progress. If you're serious about learning to play the guitar, get lessons with a professional guitar teacher. Good luck.
