How do I sing high notes?

How can I sing high notes without straining my voice?

• Hello.. I am a soprano, and I can sing a high C sort of compfortably. The highest I can make my voice go is up to a high E. Sometimes I can sing a high E without straining at all, and other times I just can't do it(even if i've warmed up well.) i know that in order to sing high notes, you have to breathe with you diaphram and breathe low, and push the air out with your lower muscles. I try to do this, and sometimes I can do it well, and other times it's just a total fail. I usually speak and sing very quietly, so could it be because I don't always use enough air? I've really only been trying to practice singing those notes for a couple of weeks, because I never really focused on it. But I don't want to damage my voice, so if you could give me some advice that would be wonderful;)

  You'd better let a fully qualified vocal teacher show you how to do it, because you will eventually damage your throat in case you try to sing high straight away without a proper and healthy technique on your own! Activating one's diaphragm is NOT only crucial when singing high, it is crucial for singing ALL sorts of things, and therefore it is part of a healthy vocal technique.
