What is the flute fingering for E sharp?

Is there a fingering for E# on flute? If not, what fingering should I use?

  • I'm playing Chaminade's Concertino, and it has a marking for an E#. There is no fingering that I can find, and I'm not sure if I should play an F for it, like you do with a B#. Any help would be awesome. : D

    Yes, it is played like an F natural. However, if you are attempting the Chaminade Concertino, and you do not know enharmonic notes, then you are going to have a hard time! At least you are not playing the Griffes Poem- you would go out of your MIND!! There are several passages in the Chaminade that also require alternate fingerings to be fluent - you will SUFFER if you try to play those passages with the REAL fingerings. I hope that you work on this with a fine PRIVATE flute teacher. If you are are doing this for a potential competition or evaluation (like NYSSMA in NY state) then you BETTER work with a private teacher - or you will not survive the judge. How do I know?? I *am* a judge. Good luck - this is a great piece for HS kids to play.

instead of playing a regular F. lift your first finger (next to the thumb) on your right hand up. and place your wedding finger on your right hand down (as if you were playing a D) so just to recap! all fingers on left hand as if you were playing an F and only wedding finger down on right hand. hope this helps!

E# is the same pitch as F it is just written differently.
