Is it easier to learn how to play guitar or piano?
-
One of my main goals is to learn how to play a new instrument before I graduate high school. I would like to learn how to play either piano or guitar, but I can't decide on which instrument to pick up. Right now the deciding factor is how easy it is to learn how to play the instrument. I don't want to pay a teacher, so would it be easier to teach myself how to play guitar or piano?

Hey.. James here.. It wasn't until probably the last six months or so that I've been able to play the guitar. I've always been very interested since a young age considering my dad and his brothers pretty much grew up on the guitar and drums. It's always been in the family and when I would watch them play they always made it look so easy.. it seemed like almost a natural thing for them. I tried for years to learn how to play... tried to have my father help me, looked to books to teach me, spent hours on youtube watching people try to explain.. etc. Nothing ever really worked. I eventually gave up for a few years then just within the past year or so I became interested in it again when I would see all these girls just going crazy over musicians at shows/concerts... lol. So I started looking online and came across this website .. http://www.guitar.pcti-system.com ... which is an online program with videos and the works that teaches everything you need to know to learn how to play. It's probably the best tutorial/instructional course I've ever seen... I learned how to play the guitar very quickly and now it seems like I can almost play songs by ear.. something my uncle can do. I'm actually planning on tryin to start up a band with a few friends of mine after I get myself a newer more expensive better quality guitar. But I definitely would have never learned it if it wasn't for that course. I hope I was of some help to you my friend, and I wish you the best of luck! Rock on.

I don't know and I'm sorry I can't help you, but I find your question funny because my friend just started learning piano and I'm probably about to start learning guitar. May I suggest you start learning both, and after about three weeks, drop one of them and continue learning the one you enjoy most?

Hey! I am a Senior in High School, before we are able to graduate we have to have to complete a Senior Experience Project. I have always been involved in music, whether it be; singing, piano, trumpet, and a little guitar. I choose to write a song for my project and I am doing it on the piano. Can you read music? If you can read music I think that the piano would be the easiest instrument to learn. Guitar, for me, seemed kind of difficult to put all of the different chords together. There are quite a few piano tutorials online. Go to youtube and type piano lessons. Whatever you choose, I wish you the best of luck. Have a great weekend!

I play both, and each of them have their own difficulties when you're learning. For guitar, your fingers are going to get some nasty blisters. Unless you plan to use sheet music, you'll need to learn to read tabs. For piano, if you can't read bass and treble clefs, you'll have to learn. Also, if you're fingers aren't long enough it's going to take a lot more practice to reach the keys. I could already read treble clef when I started playing piano, so I found it a lot easier than learning to read tabs. I found the guitar extremely frustrating, but that's probably because I'm a wind/percussion player and don't like string instruments. Hope this helps :)

I actually can't play piano (well i can plunk around on it) or guitar. I played guitar when I was 7, and I play viola now. So i might be a little biased but i think guitar would be easier. They are both similar in the sense that they require a lot of hand flexibility and each key or fret represents a half step. however locating the notes on piano might be more difficult and having to learn to play notes with both hands might be VERY difficult. That's my dilemma. Plus, with guitar you only have to learn to read one clef (treble clef), and with piano you would have to learn bass and treble clefs. And it depends on what kind of music you like, if you play piano you're stuck with classical music unless you go into jazz. And guitar, you can play rock or jazz or anything really! SO... i think guitar would be easier, but it's your decision :)

all depends on what you like. you put more effort on things that are confortable to you. my brother-in-law play guitar but he is stupid in piano. i play piano and i am stupid with guitar.

Don't go through life looking for the easy way out; that's for losers. Decide on which one you want to play more and go for it. Good luck.
