Can I use a jazz style drum kit for a metal band?
-
I'd like some opinions please. I'm looking into buying a new drum kit, and I perfer the pearl jazz kits, but my band is doom metal, will the drums suffice?

Answer:
You can use a jazz kit, sure, but it won't sound right. It doesn't have as many pieces, and the bass drum is smaller.

You may have to change the heads to a different type, and spend some time retuning your drums, but they should do. The biggest problem is going to be that jazz shells are usually smaller, and that's going to take a bit of tuning to get them to sound "bigger" than they actually are. But, it can be done. Good luck.
